Personal care and fast moving consumer goods business Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting plans to launch a direct to customer e-commerce store for skincare brand Bio-essence to expand the Singaporean brand in the Indian market.
“We are running a pilot on direct to customer with Bio-essence which is currently sold through some of the platforms,” said Wipro Customer Care- India’s chief executive Neeraj Khatri, ET Bureau reported. “We have strong research and development capabilities in skincare so we can make it a success story.”
Wipro Consumer Care acquired Bio-essence in 2012 and the brand currently retails in India through a range of multi-brand e-commerce platforms. By launching a direct to customer store for the label, Wipro Consumer Care aims to tap into India’s fast growing skincare market and target premium shoppers.
“Wipro Ventures will take [a] minority stake in emerging spaces and direct to customer brands, provide strategic input and guidance, but will not take full control,” said Khatri. “This year the growth rate will be lower since price growth is not there and it’s entirely driven by volume growth. While the second quarter has been better than the first, the second half of the fiscal definitely looks better.”
