Inca presented a glamorous and fluid take on sustainability on day two of Lakmé Fashion Week x Fashion Design Council of India with womenswear collection ‘Love is a Verb’. The collection featured Bollywood celebrity Dia Mirza and a host of unstructured looks made from eco-friendly textiles.
“I believe the idea of couture and prêt is outdated,” said Inca’s designer Amit Hansraj in a press release. “Fashion is fashion and it should be celebrated irrespective of category. My endeavour with this collection is to show sustainability in a sexy/ glamorous way and to create a new vocabulary. I am excited to be showcasing on the sustainable day at Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI.”
Dia Mirza closed the show wearing a dark hued, silky button-down shirt, a floor-length metallic skirt, and a sheer, floor-length draped coat. Accessorised with glittering gemstones, Mirza epitomised Hansraj’s vision of sustainability as sexy.
“I am truly impressed by the fluidity in Inca’s designs,” said Dia Mirza. “They exude a sense of freedom and relaxation, making them accessible to everyone. The fusion of sustainability with modern chic elements enhances the appeal of the collection. It’s heartening to see Lakmē Fashion Week x FDCI championing sustainability, fostering meaningful conversations, and I’m honoured to be a part of it.”
Inca is short for ‘Inc-rnation by Amit Hansraj’. The Love is a Verb collection used silk and satin which was derived from the by-products of rubber and sugarcane and took inspiration from traditional fisherwomen for its ‘lazy sarees’.
Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI runs at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai from March 13 to 17. The fashion week’s runway shows are also streamed online to enable the public to view and the event also features exhibitions, panel discussions, and a shopping fair.
